Prayer & Praise - 3rd August 2016

Written by John Glasser, City Director.

For the past eight weeks, our family has been traveling for missions and having some vacation time. We are seeing a world that is being shaken by God, as it says in Hebrews 12:26-27, “whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, "Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven." Now this, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.” Through our trip, we are seeing a world that is shaken and ready for the gospel.

This is the time for the church to rise, in unity, and accomplish more together than we can individually. Unity can accomplish so much more than division. In order to have unity, we have to be connected to each other. Could you imagine Senior Pastors, youth pastors, members of churches in Sioux Falls regularly meeting together having fellowship. Some already do, but many more need to have a connection. With connection comes what Paul writes to the Philippians in chapter 2, saying, “therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Considering others needs above our own would change Sioux Falls and our region. Connection and consideration lead to agreement. Agreement does not mean that we all do the same thing, but that we are hearing the same message from the Holy Spirit and that we seek the same outcome. This could look like more cooperation in the Great Commission. This would mean more souls coming to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This is the fragrance of Christ. This was Jesus’ prayer in John 17 when He prayed that His disciples would be one. This is what is meant of how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity. We are better together, when we are connected to Jesus, hearing His voice through the Holy Spirit, and fulfilling the Great Commission.

Antonio Olivares-Johnson, ministry staff.

“Collision did a couple outreaches this past month; one of them being an event for all high schoolers at Sertoma park. The main goal behind it was to emphasize unity and God’s power in it. Nearly all high schools (with the exception of one school) were represented that day, which is not always the case with the all-schools events. It was really encouraging that on the day the students and staff talked about unity and nearly all schools were represented through the student leaders.

Even though we didn’t discuss unity in the middle schools, specifically this past month, I still feel like it was emphasized with them this month too. Students are coming together from different schools, all with different personalities, backgrounds, and cultures, and the way that they’re connecting with each other is amazing. I personally feel it can be beneficial for students to be around other students that are doing the same thing they are in their schools, which in this case is ministry. You never know what kind of encouraging conversation will arise from that. So that being said, I think it’s been a great month in a sense that students have started to connect more with each other to help raise each other up.”

Praises:

  • For unity being built between students of different schools.

  • God is raising up prayer and financial supporters for the ministry.

Prayer requests:

  • Pray for the Glassers as they finish up their time and travel home.

  • Pray for the safety of our staff, volunteers and students as they travel this summer.

  • Pray for the Sadlers as their due date is coming near.
