2 Corinthians 1:3-7 says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort."
It’s hard to go through suffering and trials. All of us have been there. Suffering is never without a purpose even though we may not always see it.
While walking through a recent tough time, I was studying the verses in 2 Corinthians 1. I discovered God not only gives comfort, but He is the author of it. These verses remind me that we can have comfort in all our troubles. God gives us abundant comfort. There are certain comforts we will never know apart from His sufferings. We have these trials so we will be able to comfort others when they go through them. We may even be able to share salvation with others in our sufferings. Our troubles cause us to trust in God and offer prayers to Him. We can be grateful when we receive answers to our prayers in our trials. According to Romans 5:3-5, our sufferings produce perseverance, character and hope. And hope does not disappoint.
I am so thankful to have a personal relationship with the author of comfort when I go through trials. Praise God!
